Title: World Class Health Tech Hub for the West Midlands

Guest Speaker: Cliff Dennett, Associate Director, Bruntwood SciTech and Aline Cahrpentier, Head of Innovation, Bruntwood SciTech.

Focus:

Due to complete in First Quarter of 2024, this project is a product of a partnership between Bruntwood SciTech and the University of Birmingham.

BHIC has been billed as ‘A World-Leading, Connected Healthcare Technologies Campus’ and been recognised by the Government as one of six Life Science Opportunity Zones, critical in delivering key themes of the Life Sciences Vision, supporting the growth of life science clusters; linking businesses directly to the NHS; and delivering data enabled healthcare innovation.

We know that Birmingham Health Innovation Campus will offer best-in-class health, life science and innovation facilities along with a range of laboratory and office space for forward-thinking businesses, creating a hub for collaboration with a wide range of clinical and academic experts.

We ask Cliff Dennett, Associate Director, Bruntwood SciTech what can be expected from the development and how the Life Science and Health Tech community (SMEs in particular our members included), can benefit from the campus.

Outcomes:

  • How can we work together to make access barrier-free?
  • How can we ensure the longevity and sustainability of the campus for years to come, and for it to be a thriving part of our region’s healthtech eco-system?
  • How will the campus benefit Birmingham’s people and environment?
  • How will the WMHTIA programme be of benefit to participants and how will this contribute BHIC ecosystem?

Audience: Med/Health Tech Businesses, Start-ups, Product Designers, Manufacturers, Academia, Health Tech providers, Innovation Managers, Tech Specialists.

Cliff Dennett, Associate Director, Bruntwood SciTechCliff is an Associate Director of Bruntwood SciTech – a joint venture between Bruntwood, Legal & General and Greater Manchester Pension Fund – which is the UK’s leading company dedicated to creating innovation districts and driving the growth of the UK science and technology sector.

Cliff’s background is predominantly in technology, having started and scaled his own technology company. Prior to joining Bruntwood SciTech, Cliff worked in senior sales and strategy positions within some of the world’s pioneering companies including; Orange, Hewlett Packard and AT&T.

He is part of the core team delivering the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus (‘BHIC’); a pioneering new life sciences development that provides world class facilities to life science and med tech companies.

Aline Charpentier, Head of Innovation, Bruntwood SciTech

Aline is the Head of Innovation for Bruntwood SciTech Melbourn Science Park, working on establishing it as a thriving ecosystem for TechBio companies.

Aline’s experience covers a wide range of support to entrepreneurs in life sciences, having developed BioEntrepreneurs boot camps across Europe, established the One Nucleus Virtual Innovation Centre for growing companies and now advising an early stage therapeutics fund, Biotranscript.

Prior to joining the Cambridge ecosystem, she worked on technology transfer programmes for the scientific services of the French Embassy in the USA (Boston) and technology scouting at the CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique).

She holds a MSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Toulouse and MBA from Grenoble School of Management
