Title: Making New Ideas Thrive: Incubators as an engine for growth

Guest Speaker: Andrew Shortt, Health Tech and Life Sciences Account Manager, GBSLEP Growth HubAndrew holds a 1st class chemistry degree, and a distinction in MSc pharmacology, experienced in working with start-ups and SMEs within the health tech, biotech, med tech, life sciences, CROs, med devices, and pharma industries.

Andrew’s role at the Growth Hub, supports solutions for regional SMEs in the GBS area to help them address their barriers to growth. This ranges from access to finance, growth strategy and programmes, talent attraction, networking, and other support.

Andrew works in collaboration with the support landscape, to offer an integrated approach to SME support. Some of the partners include are Aston University, University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, WMHTC, Medilink, Dept of Trade and Industry, The Growth Company, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Technology Supply Chain and Birmingham Enterprise Community.

Focus:Following on from the GBSLEP and WMHTC successful Roundtable: Incubators as an engine for growth in March @ The Exchange, Birmingham. Andrew will revisit the discussion and highlight the vision for incubators as an engine for growth in the West Midlands.

This session will cover:

• What we mean by “Incubators” and what they do;

• The models of operation in the West Midlands; and

• The contribution to growth in the health tech sector

• Roundtable feedback: The practical considerations that participants identified to fuel growth
